Dining with Giraffes by Simone Jowell

A few years ago I purchased a wonderful book filled with African photographs taken in the 50’s and 60’s. There was one small picture taken at a manor house in Nairobi, Kenya. The image shows a couple eating at their breakfast table while a beautiful giraffe sticks her head through the window for a kiss, and perhaps a snack.

I deeply wished to have this experience. Last year I fulfilled my dream by spending two nights at Giraffe Manor, the same house in the photograph. Sharing breakfast with the beautiful wild giraffes was a magical experience, one that I hope to repeat again some day. Until then I have breakfast in Cleveland, Ohio most mornings. But, sometimes, the breakfast that I choose reminds me of that special African experience.

½ of a papaya, peeled and chopped

1 banana, sliced

½ cup raisins

¼ cup of sunflower seeds

juice of ½ a lemon

Add first four ingredients into a beautiful bowl and squeeze the lemon juice over the mixture. Enjoy.
